Who is Miss Melody? Rachel Brackett (Miss Melody) is in her 13th year of teaching and is currently the K-6 General Music Teacher and Choir Director at Lakeview Elementary in Kirkland, WA. She earned her National Board Certification in Early and Middle Childhood Music, and also instructs private voice, piano, and guitar lessons. She loves singing, acting and working with children in the performing arts, and has been since her teen years.
Do I have to be musical to teach First Note? No musical training is required. Miss Melody teaches right alongside you!
Do I need to have any instruments in my classroom? No instruments are required though egg shakers, rhythm sticks, 2 puppets and a slide whistle are suggested. The Complete Kit includes all the items that you will need.
Is training included with the First Note program? A training DVD is included with your kit and is also available online. If you require additional training you can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How long is each lesson? The video portion of each lesson runs between 15 and 19 minutes though there are 3 or 4 pause points in each lesson where certain activities are suggested. The class could easily be 30-40 minutes in total.
How many lessons are there and how often should we do them? 30 lessons total taught once per week throughout the school year. Several teachers have chosen to repeat the lessons more than once per week based on classroom time available.
What age group is First Note designed for? Pre-K to 1st grade (ages 3-6)
What is the Frankie Dance™? Named after our mascot “Frankie First Note” and developed by creator Anne Green Gilbert, the Frankie Dance™ involves a series of exercises comprised of eight (8) fundamental movement patterns that we move through in the first years of life.
